Objective
The project covers the preparation of studies and tender documentation, as well the issuance of environmental and building permits necessary for upgrading the rail loading infrastructure at the Tata railway station, located on the Orient/East-Mediterranean Corridor of the TEN-T core network in Western Hungary.
It is part of a Global Project which aims to upgrade of Hungarian TEN-T railway stations and lines to civilian and military dual use in line with the requirements of Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/1328, mainly in terms of the rail axle load and minimum train length. The overall objective of the Global Project is to improve interoperability of the railway infrastructure, enhance competitiveness of the railway sector and to promote modal shift, especially for freight transport.
The existing loading infrastructure at Tata railway station does not meet interoperability requirements in terms of size, condition of paved loading area, and usable length of loading tracks. The Tata railway station is of crucial military importance due to its closeness to important military routes or sites. The upgraded infrastructure will be utilised both for civilian and military purposes.
The project will remove a current bottleneck, since it contributes to the upgrade of existing rail infrastructure and the gradual development of the TEN-T network, promoting its resource-efficient use. The completed project design documentation will ensure compliance with the following dual-use rail requirements as defined in the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/1328: the rail track gauge 1435 mm, loading gauge GC standard, max cargo height (4,5 m), max cargo width (3,15 m), max cargo length (18,75 m), axle load (22,5 t), train length (minimum 740 m) and 3 siding spurs each of minimum 300 m length, with 2 new siding spurs within this project and 1 new siding spur in the vicinity (9 km away) at AlmΓ‘sfΓΌzito railway station addressed within project No. 21-HU-TM-WEST HUN RAIL MILMOB, as well as 24/7 hour lighting.
