Description: The UNDP-UNESCO-AFSC consortium project is based on an intervention approach with four key components: spaces for dialogue and listening, community resilience, the production of cultural content, and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS). These four components are interdependent, creating a link between processing the past, healing trauma at the individual and collective levels, and fostering social cohesion within communities. The project first aims to bring traumatized individuals closer together by encouraging individual expression and exchange through the organization of spaces for dialogue and listening within the target communities. It then seeks to shift mindsets through key message dissemination and advocacy activities that should lead to collective awareness of trauma and reconciliation. The project will subsequently promote inclusion and community resilience by empowering target communities to develop their own initiatives to bring people together. Simultaneously, the most vulnerable will be supported through income-generating activities. The project pays special attention to addressing the past as a driver of integration. It will have a significant impact on the mental health system in Burundi by linking community services with specialized services at the provincial and national levels. The project will support the strengthening of community-based support while simultaneously enhancing the availability of specialized services. Finally, the project will utilize the production of cultural content to promote understanding and healing from trauma.
