The purpose of this project is to support the development of a regional automotive cluster to foster business, academia and quality infrastructure networks in target economies to provide adequate support to SMEs in complying with the requirements of EU-based vehicle manufacturers and tier 1 suppliers. This will be achieved through a comparative assessment of the gaps and potential at the firm- and institutional/academia levels, leading to the formulation of policy recommendations and implementation of concrete on-the-ground technical assistance. The Ministry of the Economy, Tourism, and Sport of Slovenia requested UNIDO's collaboration in designing and implementing a technical assistance programme funded by Slovenia and aiming at building the foundations for a large-scale programme for a potential cooperation with the EU
