Scope :
Greater Karachi Bulk Water Supply Scheme K-IV worth Rs191.19456 billion, which is 648pc higher than the estimated cost of Rs 25.552 billion in original PC-I, to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) for further consideration.
It has been recommended by the CDWP to complete the Greater Karachi Bulk Water Supply Scheme K-IV in phases, with recommendation to complete first phase of 260 million gallon per day with the estimated cost of Rs 126b. Projects related to health, physical planning & housing, education, information technology sectors were presented in the meeting.
A project related to physical planning & housing presented in the meeting namely Greater Karachi Bulk Water Supply Scheme K-IV 650 MGD (1st Revised) was presented by the Ministry of Water Resources at a cost of Rs. 191,194.556 million. The project was recommended at reduced scope and cost that is 260MGD water and the cost is Rs. 126 billion with the constitution of a Committee to settle certain observations before submission of the project to ECNEC. Deputy Chairman Planning Commission emphasized that there is a severe water shortage in Karachi and therefore the project needs to be carried out on a fast track basis.
As per the revised PC-I, in 2014 the estimated cost of the Greater Karachi Bulk Water Supply Scheme K-IV was Rs 25.552b and the completion time was 2018. However, due to multiple reasons, the project could not be executed. In the revised PC-I, the cost of the project has gone up by 648pc to Rs191,194.556 million and now it will be completed by October 2026.
