Scope : Construction of Dharavi Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF) in Mumbai, Maharashtra
Work on Waste Water Treatment Facility (WwTF) in Mumbai will begin by mid-2018. This WwTF is part of the Mumbai Sewage Disposal Project Phase II (MSDP II) and will recycle sewage water, and make it usable for non-potable and industrial purposes. This is part of BMC’s plan to improve sewage treatment in the city.
Under MSDP II, BMC has planned water treatment plant at Dharavi, once ready, adding 50 per cent extra water to Mumbai. BMC floated tenders for the WwTFs at Dharavi recently, and will be able to award contract by mid-year. As per plan, work on water treatment facility is to be completed by 2025.
On April 2023, Ahluwalia Contracts (ACIL) has bagged an order from Welspun Enterprises in Mumbai for the construction of the Dharavi wastewater treatment facility as part of the Mumbai sewage disposal project. The contract is valued at Rs 556.58 crores.

On May 2022, The Welspun Enterprises-EDAC JV emerged as a lowest bidder in the bidding process conducted for the project. Welspun Enterprises Limited has received Letter of Acceptance dated May 27, 2022 from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation for construction of Dharavi Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF).
The project comprises construction of Dharavi WWTF of 418 MLD capacity on design, build, operation and maintenance (DBOM) basis including 209 MLD tertiary treatment facility under Mumbai Sewage Disposal Project, Stage II (Priority Works). The Welspun Enterprises-EDAC JV emerged as a lowest bidder in the bidding process conducted for the project.
A Joint Venture led by Welspun Enterprises Limited will design, build, operate and maintain the Project for total consideration of Rs. 4,636 crore (inclusive of GST). The contract period for the subject work is 60 (Sixty) months for Design Build and further 15 years of operation and maintenance. The share of the Company in the said Joint Venture is 80%.
