π Tender Overview
The bridge is known both as the Viaducto del Sur project and as Guayaquil's fifth bridge project. In all the Viaducto Sur will stretch for a total of 44km. It will feature four separate bridge sections. Building the link will improve transport to and from Guayaquil's busy port area, a key economic driver for Ecuador.
The bridges will be built over the Cobina Estuary (550m long), the Bulu-Bulu River (185m), the Mojahuevo Estuary (50m) and the Guayas River (3.3km).
When the new bridge is complete, it will improve transport between Guayaquil and Duran. The project is being overseen by the Transport and Public Works Ministry.
The new bridge is expected to cost US$1 billion to build and work should start during 2024 if the current schedule is adhered to.
The Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC), on behalf of the Government of Canada, signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ecuadorβs Technical Secretariat of Public-Private Partnerships and Delegated Management (STAPP-GD). The agreement will open opportunities for Canada-Ecuador collaboration on bridge and other infrastructure projects through CCC. This provides Ecuador the assurance that the project will be delivered as contracted.
