Project General Description
The proposed project, Building a Better Tomorrow (BBT) Program : Youth in Agribusiness -Project I is closely aligned to Government of Tanzania (GoT)βs long-term development objectives outlined in the Tanzania Development Vision 2025 (TDV25) and the third Five Year Development Plan, which articulate interventions aimed at increasing the value and productivity of agricultural production, employment creation, expanding the diversification of products and strengthening the value chains in the agricultural sector, and creating favourable environments for the private sector to engage profitably in production and export of agricultural products. It is also aligned to Pathways for Sustainable Food Systems 2030, whose transformative channels include focusing production and productivity on the crop, livestock and fisheries sub-sectors, while financing agriculture and private-sector involvement.
Project Objectives
The project development objective is to improve job creation, and food and nutrition security for youths in Tanzania. The specific objective of the project is to create business opportunities and decent employment for young women and men along priority agricultural value chains.
Beneficiaries
BBT I will be implemented in two regions: Dodoma and Mbeya, which are well advanced in terms of securing land, environmental and social safeguards preparations, and soil analyses. Subsequent projects under BBT Program will cover the remaining regions in the country. The targeted youth beneficiaries will be in two categories. The first consists of unemployed graduates who have completed post-secondary education (incubation). The second group is composed of youths who are already engaged in agribusiness but have no or limited access to commercial loans to grow their businesses (acceleration).
