PROJECT DESCRIPTION (DE)
Background:
Agriculture and inappropriate land use are causing biodiversity loss and increasing greenhouse gas emissions in Mexico. Rural development is crucial because agriculture shapes the country's economy, culture, and politics. More than 27 million people work in this sector, with the proportion of women increasing by 16 percent due to men's migration to urban areas. Nevertheless, women face challenges such as traditional gender roles, limited land ownership, violence, and discrimination.
At the same time, Mexico must reconcile integration into the global market with the promotion of local farming methods to ensure food security, improve access to food, and protect ecosystems.
Objective:
Mexico has improved its policies and the conditions for the transformation of agriculture and food systems toward greater environmental and social responsibility. The structure and form of the brief project descriptions are clearly defined; the English text should not exceed a maximum of 1,800 characters (including spaces).
Approach:
The project implements targeted measures for the transformation of agriculture and food systems. This includes:
developing policies and instruments at the national and regional levels to promote biodiversity-friendly and climate-resilient agriculture;
fostering agreements between the central government and regional governments to support transformative farming methods; and
creating a catalog of model initiatives for environmentally responsible agric
