A prosperous, greener, decarbonized and more stable Southern Neighbourhood is a strategic priority for the European Union (EU) and for the region. The green transition is bound to become a major pillar of Euro-Mediterranean cooperation, especially in light of the second Circular Economy Action Plan and other EU initiatives linked to the Green Deal.The project Support for small and medium-sized entreprises’ transition towards a green and circular economy (EUR 12 million) focuses on the micro level of intervention foreseen in the Directorate General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR)'s Action Document for Support to Green and Circular Economy in the Southern Neighbourhood. Coordination and synergies with the Action Document's interventions at the macro ( Support to an enabling policy and regulatory framework ) and meso ( Support to business support organizations ) levels will be ensured.Building on the success of the SwitchMed Programme's UNIDO industry component, the overall objective (impact) of the intervention is to create green jobs along the targeted value chains , including to contribute to sustainable economic growth, decarbonized and climate resilient development, decent jobs creation, and a safer, healthier and pollution-free environment.The project will achieve this impact through the outcome of strengthening the resource efficient and circular competitiveness of SMEs , brought about by two outputs: resource efficient and circular business models are demonstrated and capacity thereon, including access to finance, is built and Resource efficient and circular knowledge is disseminated at educational, TVET and policy levels, including regionally .The support to the green and circular economy foreseen in this intervention contributes to the objectives of several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDGs 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 11 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and 13 (Climate Action). It will support the objective of the Team Europe Initiative Jobs through Trade and Investment in the Southern Neighbourhood to foster decent job creation through increased levels of trade and investments, as well as to contribute to an inclusive economic recovery through improved skills and entrepreneurship
