π Tender Overview
At the end of May 2023, there were more than two million internally displaced persons in Burkina Faso, 6,150 schools closed and more than one million students affected by the security situation. In this context, Switzerland and the European Union are joining forces to co-finance the programmes of the NGOs Enfants du Monde and Educo. The capacity of the education system to offer inclusive, safe and quality education to internally displaced persons and host populations in three regions with high security challenges is strengthened.

The project in brief
Background The security crisis in Burkina Faso since 2015 has caused a continuous increase in the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs), more than 2.06 million in May 2023. The education sector is heavily impacted by the conflict, with the closure of nearly a quarter of the country's educational structures, affecting more than a million students. This situation has catastrophic effects on the education and protection of children, leading to school dropout, deschooling and non-enrollment of a growing number of children and since 2018 the constant decline in the main education indicators (access, quality). In order to coordinate the mobilization of resources and support actions for the education sector in crisis situations, Burkina Faso, with the support of its partners including Switzerland, has adopted and implemented a National Strategy for Education in Emergency Situations 2019-2024. In the interests of aid effectiveness and to ensure access to quality education in areas with high security challenges, the SDC and the European Union Delegation are co-financing the projects of two NGOs, Enfants du Monde and Educo. Thanks to this joint funding, vulnerable girls and boys in conflict zones will have better chances of accessing inclusive, safe and quality education.
Objectives Children and young people in three regions with high security challenges - including internally displaced students, returnees and students remaining in shock zones - have better access to quality education and services that ensure their protection and promote a climate of peace.
