The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme embodies the very essence of sustainable development by "thinking globally acting locally". By providing financial and technical support to projects that conserve and restore the environment while enhancing people's well-being and livelihoods, the Small Grants Programme demonstrates that community action can maintain the fine balance between human needs and environmental imperatives. The GEF Small Grants Programme (SGP) provides financial and technical support to communities and Civil Society Organizations to meet the overall objective of global environmental benefits secured through community-based initiatives and actions. A poor and vulnerable community, for example, can use a small grant to develop capacity for a larger project. UNOPS provides execution services to UNDP who is the implementing party of the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme. This includes: human resources services, administrative services, procurement services and financial management support, as well as grant disbursement management. This Small Grants Programme provision is specifically targeting the Anglophone African Countries.
