The project in brief
Background Mali is facing a complex multidimensional crisis, exacerbating the vulnerability of millions of people, including 7.1 million in need of humanitarian assistance. The withdrawal of MINUSMA, the resurgence of conflicts in the North and the intensification of attacks by armed groups have worsened insecurity and hampered access to humanitarian aid, and are leading to significant population displacement. Reduced humanitarian and development funding, and political tensions (including uncertainties related to Mali's withdrawal from ECOWAS) are negatively impacting the response to growing needs. In addition, the Malian authorities have tightened the working conditions of NGOs through the December 2022 instruction. They are working on a draft law that risks significantly complicating the operations of NGOs. This situation calls for coordinated advocacy to mitigate these negative impacts.
