Project summary
The general objective of the action is: To promote the conservation and enhancement of biodiversity and sustainable and equitable socio-economic development in Burundi.
The specific objective is: The ecosystem services of the Rusizi River watershed are protected and enhanced. The action is structured around three levels of expected results/outputs:
P1.1: Governance and sustainable and inclusive/participatory management of protected areas, in particular Kibira and Rusizi National Parks, are improved;
P1.2: Practices and mechanisms for restoration and integrated management of land and water resources are improved;
P1.3: The organization, monitoring and management of the drinking water supply service in rural areas are improved for the benefit and thanks to the participation of local populations, with a focus on groups in vulnerable situations
ENABEL is expected for the implementation of outputs 1.1 and 1.2 with a role of lead and general coordination of the action, as well as lead for the aspects of institutional support and capacity building.
The action will be implemented in the Provinces of Cibitoke, Bubanza and (partly) Bujumbura rural, in particular in the Kibira and Rusizi National Parks, their buffer zones, as well as in micro-basins which supply the Rusizi river.
