PROJECT DESCRIPTION (DE)
Background:
Mozambique is among the African countries most severely affected by climate change. More frequent and intense extreme weather events exacerbate problems such as food insecurity, poverty, and damage to infrastructure.
Climate protection is therefore of paramount importance to Mozambique. However, the associated challenges are rarely addressed within the country. The responsible institutions lack the expertise and support to develop and implement effective climate protection measures.
Germany and Mozambique have therefore signed a Climate and Development Partnership to promote the country's climate and energy policy.
Goal:
Mozambique can update and implement its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to the Paris Agreement. Districts and municipalities will receive better guidance on climate adaptation. At the same time, the energy transition, rural access to climate-friendly energy, and the market for clean energy products will be promoted.
Approach:
The project supports Mozambique in further developing its climate policy and implementing the energy transition. To this end, it collaborates with key institutions such as the Ministries of Environment and Energy The project focuses on advancing national climate protection strategies, climate change adaptation, and the energy transition. It
implements four components:
1. supporting the Ministry of the Environment in updating and implementing the
