The Environmental and Social Framework (ESF) was approved by the Board of Directors on 22 November 2024. The ESF recognizes that harmonization of E&S requirements with peer institutions will reduce transaction costs and strengthen borrower E&S systems. The ESF promotes the use of and reliance on borrower and private sector clients E&S systems provided it will address the E&S risks and impacts of the project, and enable the project to achieve objectives materially consistent with the ESSs. Implementation readiness for the ESF requires strengthening DMCs and private sector clients E&S safeguards capacity and continuous application of good practice.
