Summary
This project aims to strengthen capacity among evidence users and researchers in the education field to identify, generate, mobilize and use evidence in educational policymaking processes within the Global South. Operating across Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa, the initiative contributes to better-informed educational agendas through integrated workstreams that address both sides of evidence-use dynamics in education: the demand for knowledge in policy processes, and the production and mobilization of relevant evidence for use.
The research has three focus areas. The first, focused on Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), identifies current gaps and priorities in evidence use in educational policy regarding wide-ranging reform-oriented processes and their linkages with the political economy of reforms. The second builds capacity among Southern actors from LAC and sub-Saharan Africa in evidence synthesis, including specific training in evidence meta-analysis, an identified gap in policymakers' access to evidence and a capacity need in Africa and Latin America. This meta-analysis support will be associated with a hands-on exercise to develop a contextualized early-childhood education toolkit, complete with meta-analyses, implementation guides, videos and accessible digital resources. The project will mobilize knowledge through allied networks to promote active evidence use in public policies.
