PROJECT DESCRIPTION (DE)
Background:
While Cameroon has comprehensive regulations aimed at promoting decentralization, many municipalities lack sufficient funds and personnel to effectively fulfill their responsibilities. As a result, they are unable to optimize their financial resources, provide services such as water supply, and adequately involve the population in local decision-making. In particular, population groups such as women, young people, and people with disabilities are currently insufficiently included in municipal planning and decision-making. Furthermore, women are underrepresented in key political positions.
Objective:
Selected Cameroonian municipalities will align public investments, participatory processes, and municipal services more closely with the needs of all population groups.
Approach:
The project collaborates with approximately 25 selected municipalities, the relevant ministries, and civil society organizations in the North and Littoral regions. The project implements the following measures:
It supports municipalities in improving revenue generation, budgeting, and financial management.
It empowers municipalities to incorporate the needs of diverse population groups into their planning and evaluation processes. This particularly concerns women, young people, and people with disabilities.
It supports the political participation of women in communities, enabling them to contribute their perspectives more strongly to local development.
