The project in brief
Background The situation in Niger is marked by a convergence of crises with devastating effects on a population already weakened by poverty, unemployment, and food insecurity. The impact of climate change, particularly through extreme weather events such as droughts and floods, has significantly reduced agricultural production and destroyed essential infrastructure (roads, warehouses, markets, etc.). Since the coup d'Γ©tat of July 26, 2023, the economic and political situation has become even more fragile. Security tensions have intensified, leading to massive population displacements and exacerbating conflicts related to access to natural resources. Dosso and Maradi, two border regions with Benin and Nigeria, priority areas of the SDC, are particularly affected by food insecurity, climate shocks and armed conflicts.
Objectives Improving the resilience of vulnerable populations to food and nutritional insecurity and to climate shocks.
Target groups The project targets the populations of 14 municipalities, including 6 in Dosso and 8 in Maradi, specifically: β’ Vulnerable households β’ Young people and women through agricultural entrepreneurship β’ Local actors in community nutrition β’ The villages that will benefit from IWRM bodies
