📋 Tender Overview
The project is part of the Southern Access Route to the Brenner Base Tunnel (BBT) Global Project, which is the major cross-border section of the Scandinavian Mediterranean TEN-T Core Network Corridor. It consists of the route starting at Fortezza and terminating at Ponte Gardena Station (Lot 1) covering a total length of approximately 22.5 km. It runs almost entirely via two tunnels (Scaleres and Gardena tunnels), except for the crossing of the Isarco River. The project will construct part of the Lot 1, namely part of the two mentioned tunnels, the window galleries and shaft, and their respective access entrances. The project includes in particular the construction of a part of the main tunnels of Scaleres and Gardena (approximately 5 km for both tunnels). Moreover, it will construct the Forch and Albes window galleries (belonging to the Scaleres tunnel), the Funes Window Gallery and the Chiusa shaft (belonging to the Gardena Tunnel) and the respective entrances. Finally, it will carry out the north entrance to the Gardena tunnel. In the long term the project will allow the separation of freight from passenger traffic, and long-distance from local services, with huge benefits for passengers. The completion of Lot 1 will also mitigate the acoustic impact caused by heavy traffic and will reduce the energy consumption of traction by 40%, thus also reducing CO2 emissions. The project will create the conditions for a modal shift from road to rail. Currently, the development of freight traffic is subject to limitations imposed by the capacity of the railway sections located immediately South of Ponte Gardena, up to the end of the Trento Bypass (the Global Project).
