ScopeThe new Shellharbour Hospital aims to increase capacity to meet increased demand of healthcare services in the Southern Illawarra region and will be constructed on a greenfield site and is expected to provide acute medical and surgical services medical imaging emergency department mental health services outpatient and ambulatory care in addition to a multi-storey car park.The scope was changed in September 2020 from redevelopment of the existing Shellharbour Hospital to a new hospital on a different site. The existing Shellharbour Hospital will continue to operate until the new hospital is open. Construction time frames will be confirmed once a site has been identified and planning is further progressed. It is expected that a site could be identified in 2021.The project is being delivered by NSW Health Infrastructure in partnership with the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District.
