π Tender Overview
Scope :
Extending across seven provinces and two autonomous regions, the yellow river ecological corridor (yrec) comprises the second largest river basin in the peoples republic of china (prc) with a population of 120 million. the basin is critical for food security yet faces complex ecological and environmental challenges. the region suffers from severe water scarcity, impacts from climate change and environmentally unsustainable development. the government of the prc has prepared the yellow river basin ecological protection and high-quality development plan, 20212035, to prioritize ecological protection and promote high-quality green development. to achieve these goals, the asian development bank (adb) initiated the yrec program, which advances an integrated approach to natural resources management, ecological conservation, and climate change to support high-quality green development through institutional strengthening and policy reforms, knowledge and innovation, and private sector solutions. this project will play a demonstrative role to promote high-quality green development as part of the yrec program.
Qixia city is a county level city under the administration of yantai city in shandong province. with its rich natural environment of extensive forest-covered mountains and river systems, qixia city area serves as an important area of water source in the region. the secure maintenance of water sources and ecological environmental protection have a great significance to sustainable development of the entire yantai city. environmental degradation and weak ecological resilience are key concerns including worsening air, water, and soil quality; degraded forestry and vegetation cover; and river systems with high sedimentation. the local economic activities, particularly from agriculture and mining, have damaged qixias ecological systems through nonpoint source pollution and unsustainable use and overextraction of natural resources. more frequent extreme weather and natural hazards due to climate change are exacerbating environmental degradation, for example through its impacts on the hydrological cycle
