Initial situation:
Transparency is one of the principles for effective development cooperation (DC) to which Germany committed itself at the international aid effectiveness summits in Paris in 2005, Accra in 2008 and Busan in 2011. Among other things, the Common Open Standard for Aid Transparency stipulates the timely and comprehensive electronic publication of data on DC funds. The BMZ publishes DC data primarily as part of the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) and the annual report on official development assistance (ODA report).
Objective:
The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) makes project data in DC more transparent and has a better data basis at its disposal.
Approach:
The project works in three areas in particular:
• It supports the BMZ in publishing project data for international reporting systems. These primarily include the annual ODA report, which is required by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and the publication of management data on development cooperation and humanitarian aid projects in accordance with the IATI data standard.
• Furthermore, the project promotes internal and external data communication on BMZ projects. This includes, for example, the BMZ Transparency Portal, which makes data on development cooperation projects public.
