PROJECT DESCRIPTION (DE)
Energy plays a central role in protecting the climate and limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. This requires a global energy transition. Because energy demand continues to rise, renewable energies must be rapidly expanded. Much has already been achieved in this regard, thanks in part to the commitment of German development cooperation: Renewable energies reached a new record in 2022, accounting for 30 percent of global electricity production. However, studies indicate that investments in clean energy must almost triple by 2030 to ensure a climate-friendly energy sector.
The partner countries are creating the necessary political and regulatory frameworks to build modern and climate-neutral energy systems. This will give more people access to clean and reliable energy.
The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) supports this project in advancing the global energy transition. It provides advice on a wide range of energy-related topics and new technologies such as green hydrogen, manages knowledge, and supports the organization of events.
The project helps the BMZ (Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development) to cooperate with international partners β such as United Nations organizations and the European Commission. It builds on previous projects that, for example, helped prepare the first international conference on renewable energies in Bonn in 2004.
Finally, the project advises the BMZ on improving investment conditions to support and accelerate the preparation and implementation of infrastructure projects.
