Scope :
second phase of the nine cities drinking water supply project.
Phase two will upgrade the drinking water supply in Garoua Boulai, Dschang, Garoua, Maroua and Yabassi.
The first phase covered the cities of Kribi, Bafoussam, Bamenda and Sangmélima and was completed in 2021. It increased daily water production by 38,000 cubic metres.
The official launch ceremony for the second phase took place in Garoua Boulai in the eastern region.
The US$123 million project is being jointly financed by Exim Bank of China and Cameroon.
The construction work is being undertaken by China’s CGCOC Group. CAMWATER is the contracting authority.
Phase 2 will take 36 months to complete.
The work includes the rehabilitation and extension of drinking water production facilities, the construction of new storage reservoirs and boreholes, and the densification of distribution networks. Upon completion, daily water availability in the five cities will increase by 107,000 cubic metres.
