πŸ“‹ Tender Overview

The rule of law is a foundational value and legal principle of the EU legal order with a deep interconnection with democracy. It is also indivisible with fundamental rights. One of the most important recent developments for EU law is the issue of the independence of the judiciary and the wider protection of the rule of law within the EU legal order. This development has profound significance in the field of fundamental rights protection in the EU. Hence, the EU stands in between the Rule of Law and Fundamental Rights protection.
These developments, with constant new decisions, require international collaboration between researchers and practitioners in order to identify the most important questions, provide a typology of the most significant matters and critically evaluate the major legal changes.
Such effort will provide the background for an academically challenging training and can provide post-graduate level education to students and practitioners. Training for practitioners and students will provide them with an advanced understanding of the relevant legal debates on the rule of law and fundamental rights protection.
The University of Athens Law School aspires to provide a suitable academic environment, with experienced professionals specialised in the fields of rule of law and fundamental rights protection and carry on the following projects:
1) A summer school to be delivered on an annual basis. It will be delivered by leading academic experts, both from the University of Athens Law School as well as leading University professors from EU countries. It is organised as an intensive 5-day programme, which includes seminars, targeted tutorials, exercises and a written examination at the end.
2) A short intensive workshop to be delivered annually. This course aims primarily at lawyers, policy-makers and public workers. The themes will be adjusted over the 3-year period, subject to developments.
3) An open conference gathering academics and practitioners.
