Description:
Hyundai Motor India is planning a ?1,500 crore modernisation of its manufacturing plant at Irungattukottai, near Chennai. This project is part of Hyundai’s broader strategy to enhance production efficiency and integrate advanced technologies into its manufacturing processes. The plant produces 8.5 lakh cars annually, and the expansion will increase the factory’s footprint from 5.40 lakh sq. mtrs to 7.21 lakh sq. mtrs. Hyundai aims to acquire an additional 1.81 lakh sq. mtrs of land to accommodate the increased production capacity. The modernisation will also create 155 new employment opportunities, further contributing to local job growth.
The Irungattukottai factory already employs over 19,700 people, including regular staff, trainees, and contract workers. This revamp will allow Hyundai to maintain its competitive edge in India’s growing automotive market, while also enhancing the operational efficiency of the plant. The company’s investment is aligned with its long-term goal of sustaining its leadership in the Indian automotive sector, where demand for vehicles is on the rise. Hyundai’s plans also reflect its commitment to future-proofing its manufacturing capabilities by adopting advanced, technology-driven production methods.
