In 1Q2023, UNIDO held technical consultations with representatives of the Ministry of High-Tech Industry of the Republic of Armenia to explore technical assistance opportunities in terms of developing a national high-tech strategy and implementation roadmap, which resulted in a letter (dated 27 April 2023) from H.E. Mr. Robert Khachatryan, Minister of High-Tech Industry of Armenia, addressed to H.E. Dr. Gerd Müller, Director General of UNIDO, requesting support and expressing interest of the Ministry of High-Tech Industry in enhancing national capacities necessary for advancing the high-tech sector in Armenia and in conceptualization and efficient implementation in close collaboration with UNIDO of the relevant national Strategy. The present project builds on the national development priorities and specific needs of the Ministry in fulfilling strategic tasks providing a concrete step-by-step intervention that would allow policymakers to benefit from internationally recognized and tested models for developing such strategies and supporting practical implementation cases in developing countries: from policy/strategy to implementable practical cases leading to visible results achieved in short- and medium-term. The objective of the proposed UNIDO project is to advance conceptualization and ensure efficient implementation of the national Strategy for the Development of the High-Tech Sector by scaling up efforts of the Government of Armenia towards building institutional, human and technological capacities necessary for the high-tech sector development, while reinforcing the country’s legislative, ethical framework and enabling infrastructure conducive to a well-regulated, safer and efficient adoption of such technologies, ultimately nurturing innovation, business and investment environment
