This project is part of an initiative to strengthen the knowledge ecosystem and evidence uptake with regards to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through support to two sub-regional hubs in Africa. This project will support a hub in East Africa by developing an evidence base to support priority SDG and development sector policy questions in reproductive health and clean energy in the region. It will also support development of the next generation of evidence-informed policymaking leaders in the region.
It will also support building new, and strengthening existing, country teams in delivering responsive and timely evidence for priority policymaking processes in reproductive health and clean energy through innovative methods, including rapid response services. The rapid response service units will be based in Uganda, Ethiopia, Tanzania and Malawi, and they will engage the region to strengthen country-level knowledge translation ecosystems (taking evidence/knowledge to action) to improve gender-responsive policy outcomes in reproductive health and the transition to low-carbon economies, among others.
This project is funded through the Partnership for Evidence and Equity in Responsive Social Systems (PEERSS2) - re-named the Learning together to advance Evidence and Equity in Policymaking (LEEPS). LEEPS aims to strengthen the knowledge translation ecosystem in Africa. It also aims to promote the institutionalization of evidence-informed policymaking. The LEEPS program is jointly funded by the Hewlett Foundation and IDRC.
