Project Summary
Agri-food supply chains in APEC economies are increasingly exposed to natural disasters, extreme weather events, trade disruptions, and rising sustainability standards. In many developing economies, inefficient logistics systems, weak cold chain infrastructure, fragmented transport networks, and high post-harvest losses undermine food security, MSME competitiveness, and regional trade connectivity.
This project aims to enhance the capacity of APEC economies to design and implement efficient agri-food logistics systems that are resilient, resource-efficient, and digitally enabled. Through a technical study and a regional workshop, the project will identify best practices in cold chains, transport, and efficient logistics policies. The outcomes will support APEC economies in reducing post-harvest losses, strengthening supply chain resilience, and advancing sustainable trade connectivity aligned with APECβs Food Security Roadmap Towards 2030.
Relevance
Region
Agri-food supply chains across APEC economies are increasingly vulnerable to extreme weather events and market disruptions. While agricultural production has expanded in many economies, inefficiencies in logistics systems continue to generate high post-harvest losses, elevated transport costs and reduced competitiveness. In developing economies, limited cold chain capacity, fragmented distribution networks constrain MSMEs from accessing regional and global markets.
In Viet Nam, agriculture plays a critical role in exports and rural employment, yet logistics costs remain relatively high and cold storage infrastructure is unevenly distri
