PROJECT DESCRIPTION (DE)
Initial situation:
In the Paris Climate Agreement, 195 countries have committed to limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. Technological innovations by start-ups in particular can help to get closer to this goal. In North America and Europe, investments in innovative climate solutions have therefore already increased significantly. However, emerging and developing markets have so far been less attractive for venture capitalists (VCs). In principle, there is less investment experience there, which is why climate start-ups have difficulty obtaining capital. Investment risks for investors are to be reduced by providing founders with targeted financial and technical support in the early stages.
Goal:
Start-ups and young companies in the global south can access venture capital more easily, develop solutions for climate protection and contribute to the climate-neutral transformation.
Approach:
The initiative supports innovative companies in Latin America and West Africa. In regional programs, so-called CATAL1.5°T platforms, it supports around 180 start-ups. Together, they have a climate protection potential of around 58 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions - equivalent to the emissions of Greece in 2021.
The initiative works in four programs:
• The ecosystem approach supports innovation networks with training on measuring climate potential, gender equality and inclusion, and the integration of "en
