πŸ“‹ Tender Overview

Batha, Wadi Fira and Ennedi are Sahelian provinces subject to the advance of the desert and irregular rainfall. Livestock raising is the main economic activity there. Switzerland supports a program to strengthen pastoral farming which contributes to the sustainable management of resources, the prevention of conflicts, and the improvement of the supply of services to stockbreeders. This program promotes economic opportunities for young people, limiting migration to Libya or gold-bearing areas marked by insecurity and banditry.

Background Batha, Wadi Fira and western Ennedi are provinces with a pastoral vocation, concentrating more than ΒΌ of Chad's livestock. Located on the border of the Sahara and the Sahel, these provinces suffer from rainfall deficit and irregularity. The animals drink from the few available water points, sometimes causing an overload on certain parts of the already fragile land. These regions located between 700 and 1,500 km from N'Djamena also suffer from the weakness of the State, the basic social services are failing there. The indicators are among the weakest in Chad (eg rate of access to water is 5% when the national average is around 62%). Young people abandon colleges and high schools to accompany men in search of gold in Libya. For lack of results, some switch to drug trafficking, even mercenary or armed struggle. Very few development projects there are financed by donors. As part of its cooperation strategy, Switzerland is carrying out programs there for "Management of runoff water" and Reinforcement of pastoral livestock which contribute toadaptation to climate change through the rehabilitation and protection of pastoral areas, the promotion and development of economic opportunities and the improvement of the living and working conditions of breeders; and thus contributes to the preservation of peace and security.
Objectives Improve the living conditions and food security of pastoral populations in the regions of Ennedi Ouest, Batha and Wadi Fira.
Target groups The final beneficiaries of the program are mainly small livestock farmers, who stay most of the year in their land and have limited mobility, women for the development of income-generating activities and young entrepreneurs/promoters of the livestock sector.
Medium-term outcomes - The Governance of the Livestock Sector is improved and the needs of breeders are better considered in discussions/plans/strategies at local, provincial and national levels. - Public and private service providers improve the access of breeders to basic social services (health, drinking water, education) - Access to natural resources and security of mobility are strengthened and managed in a concerted manner by the beneficiaries. - The range of economic opportunities in animal husba
