Post-Authoritarian Norms And The Ideological Legacy Of Dictatorships
A Fresh Perspective On The Evolving Political Landscapein Recent Years, Europe Has Witnessed Perplexing Political Shifts. This Ever-Evolving Landscape Of Politics Includes The Decline Of Once-Successful Left-Wing Parties In Poland, The Delayed Emergence Of A Radical Right Party In Portugal, And The Intriguing Tendency Of Right-Wing Individuals To Protest More In Eastern Europe Than Their Left-Wing Counterparts. The Erc-Funded Postnorm Project Suggests These Seemingly Disparate Phenomena Stem From A Common Thread: The Rejection Of The Ideological Legacy Of Past Authoritarian Regimes. It Will Explore How, In New Democracies, The Associations With The Old Regime Become Focal Points For Shaping Norms. For Instance, In Democracies Following Left-Wing Dictatorships, Both Voters And Political Elites Tend To Distance Themselves From The Left, And Vice Versa.
