Objective
The field of earthquake engineering is evolving from traditional seismic design to performance-based probabilistic approaches, enabling safer and more cost-effective solutions. A key challenge in this transition is the reliable prediction of structural demands, which depend on the selection of an appropriate suite of earthquake motions representative of predefined hazard-consistent earthquake scenarios at a given site. Addressing this need, the Pan-European Earthquake Selection Platform (PEUSP) initiative emerges as a complementary PoC of the just completed ERC project Stand4Heritage / S4H (New STANDards for seismic assessment of built cultural HERITAGE). The proposed PoC will develop an advanced, structure-specific earthquake motion selection platform that surpasses existing solutions. PEUSP will achieve this goal by (1) implementing up-to-date code-based and structure-specific state-of-the-art selection criteria; and (2) enabling scenario-based selection informed by seismic hazard disaggregation, using a mixed portfolio of recorded ground motions and validated simulated datasets. PEUSP will also incorporate an interactive module for real-time, site-based stochastic ground motion simulation to overcome the limited availability of recorded motions for large and rare events. By tackling scientific gaps identified in S4H, PEUSP will overcome the limitations of existing ground motion selection tools, which do not adequately account for structure-specific behaviour and rely on ambiguous criteria for seismic input selection. The successful implementation of this PoC will significantly enhance the integration of performance-based principles into seismic-resistant engineering, strengthening structural safety, reducing economic losses, and ultimately improving community seismic resilience. Finally, PEUSP has a clear exploitation pathway to support its adoption in academia, research, and industry while paving the way for commercialisation
