PROJECT DESCRIPTION (DE)
Context
Reforms to modernise services are important to improve the prospects of the six Western Balkan states (WB6) for EU accession. Living conditions for citizens must be improved by creating jobs and strengthening competitiveness at the local level so that the municipalities in the WB6 states become economically efficient and meet EU requirements. This means that local authorities and local organisations must be strengthened in their capacity to overcome the major administrative and financial challenges associated with sustainable local development and the modernisation of municipal services.
Objective
Cities and municipalities in the Western Balkan countries improve the conditions for local economic development in line with EU requirements.
Approach
The project consolidates regional cooperation and knowledge transfer between state institutions, civil society and the private sector at the municipal, national and regional levels. The project comprises three pillars:
β’ Developing innovative approaches and applying best practices to promote municipal development and local economic growth. Knowledge transfer takes place through local, sector-specific networks and strategic partnerships with German and EU institutions.
β’ Supporting reform processes in local economic development an
