📋 Tender Overview

Mali is experiencing a complex and protracted crisis that has deprived nearly 600,000 children of protection and their fundamental right to education. Out of school, they are exposed to increased risks. This project provides more than 24,000 vulnerable children in the Bandiagara, Douentza, Mopti, and Timbuktu regions with an appropriate educational opportunity in a safe and protective environment. Strengthening educational and governance capacities benefits thousands more.

The project in brief
Background The combined effects of conflict and insecurity fueled by armed groups are dramatically impacting people's daily lives. Access to basic social services is a priority for the Malian population. The destruction of public infrastructure, looting, threats, and repeated attacks on schools are seriously compromising the government's ability to provide these services, particularly in the education and protection sectors. These dynamics are leading to the closure of 20% of the country's schools, affecting nearly 600,000 children, largely located in the central and northern regions of Mali targeted by this project. Obstacles to the education system are exacerbating risks related to the protection and fundamental rights of children, including their right to education. With this project, which consolidates the achievements of previous interventions, Swiss support promotes access to educational alternatives adapted to the context and constitutes a first link in child protection. The three areas of intervention enable Switzerland to assume its role as an actor, donor and advocate in favor of the protection of vulnerable people.
