The road upgrades to be delivered under the roads of strategic importance initiative form part of the australian governments gas-fired recovery plan to increase australias gas supply and deliver reliable and affordable energy for all australians. Road upgrades will include strengthening and widening flood immunity works and road safety improvements. The upgrades will provide crucial enabling infrastructure for the bourgeoning gas sector as well as supporting industry and business by providing more reliable freight links. The upgrades will also enhance social equity in the territory by providing more efficient and reliable access to key essential services such as an education health and time-critical emergency services. Road upgrades on this corridor are scheduled to start in 2023 and to be completed by 2027.
