Scope of Work:
To Implement North-South Grid Interconnection Project.
Description:
The benefits of the interconnection project, which in turn will achieve strategic and economic objectives at the sultanate’s level in near and long terms. It will link the Main Interconnected System (MIS) of Nama Group in the north with the Duqm industrial area and the PDO network in the central region of the sultanate, as well as Nama Group network in Dhofar. The study has now concluded that the economic and strategic feasibility of the implementation of the project will be directly reflected in raising the efficiency of electricity system in Oman in general and benefiting all parties involved in particular at an estimated cost of RO500mn. All the parties will sign an agreement to start the necessary procedures for the project, which is expected to be completed within five years from day one of implementation. The project will enable the parties to trade electricity in an efficient and economic manner, improve future planning of electricity, reduce the required reserve for the electrical network of each party and reduce the fuel needed for electricity generation. It will help to secure electricity in a safe and efficient manner and reassure investors of the strength, reliability and efficiency of the energy system in Oman.
North-South Interconnection Project (Rabt), which will link the Main Interconnected System (MIS) of North Oman with the Dhofar System, while also integrating the Duqm System and that of Petroleum Development Oman (PDO).The strategic project is being implemented in two phases.The first phase, which extends from the North to Duqm and the Wilayat of Mahout, is currently being implemented in five stages, involving the construction of five 400 kV grid stations and associated overhead lines running across more than than 660 km. This phase is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2023. Phase 2, currently in design, will feature three grid 400 kV grid stations and over 500 km of overhead lines. This phase is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
