PROJECT DESCRIPTION (DE)
Context
Due to the dry desert climate, water is a scarce resource in Egypt. The country meets more than 90 percent of its water needs from the Nile. Climate change and a rapidly growing population are putting a strain on the water supply. Efficient and holistic management of water resources is essential for Egypt's long-term economic and social development.
Objective
In selected areas of Egypt, efficient water management ensures the supply of the population and agriculture.
Approach
The project improves the water supply for the population and agriculture through complementary measures. It combines proven approaches with innovative ideas. In doing so, it promotes skills, specialists, and digitalization.
The project works in the field of water and wastewater management, introduces climate-friendly measures to prevent water losses, and improves management capacities. This enables companies to supply the population with water more easily and in better quality. At the same time, scarce water resources are being conserved.
The project is also developing efficient irrigation for climate-adapted agriculture. Successful model projects are available to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and regional administrations for widespread rollout.
The project also expands cooperation between the various ministries. The topics include technical issues, water conservation measures, and networking among leaders. Particular emphasis is placed on female leaders.
