Narita International Airport Tender

ScopeThe Basic Plan for Narita International Airport has been revised for the first time in the past 53 years according to the agreement on building of a new C runway and extension of the existing B runway among four stakeholders of the government Chiba Prefecture local governments and Narita International Airport Co. The new plan calls for extension of the existing B runway from currently 2500 meters to 3500 meters and building of a new 3500 meters C runway totaling three runways including the existing 3500 meters A runway. The project including development of the related facilities is expected to complete in 2030. In the future necessary facilities will be developed depending on passenger demand afterward. The completion of the augmented program will expand the airport area from 1060 hectares to 2600 hectares. Tokyo-Narita Airport has come another step closer to expansion by proposing to build a third 3500-m runway at a cost of some USD 4.6 billion from 2020. The Government is expected to hold a public hearing in December 2019. Narita is the second busiest airport in the country handling 42.6 million passengers in 2018. It mainly offers international routes which connect more than 140 cities. The new runway could increase the annual number of airport slots from the current 300000 to 500000. Construction is expected to be completed by 2030. The Ministry of Land Infrastructure Transport and Tourism has granted permission to the airport operator to build a third runway at Narita Airport and extend the existing runway. The number of aircraft departures and arrivals is expected to increase 1.7 times with the goal of completion by the end of March 2029. According to the approved plan a runway of 3500 meters long will be newly constructed with a project cost of about 500 billion yen and a runway of 2500 meters long will be run out of the two existing runways.
