Project General Description
The project was designed to prevent the aggravation of fragility risks in the most vulnerable regions in Burkina Faso. It aligns with Pillar 2 (address the humanitarian crisis) and Pillar 4 (achieve national reconciliation and social cohesion) under PA-SD. The project aims, through rapid impact actions, to ensure the socio-economic integration of vulnerable people and promote living together in the targeted communities. These objectives are aligned with the country’s National Youth Policy (PNJ-BF 2015-2024), the National Social Protection Strategy 2024-2028, the Integrated National Action Plan for Implementing the Women, Peace and Security Agenda (2023-2025), the Health Sector Policy (PSS) 2018-2027, the National Health Development Plan (PNDS) 2021-2030, the Labour, Employment and Social Protection Sector Policy 2018-2027, and the National Employment Strategy (SNE) in the adoption phase.
Project Objectives
The project aims to contribute to social cohesion, job creation, and empowerment of young people and women in seven (Sahel, Centre-Nord, Nord, Est, Boucle du Mouhoun, Sud-Ouest, HautsBassins) of Burkina Faso’s 13 regions. The project will notably support (i) the economic empowerment of young people, both women and men, affected by the crisis through improved employability and job creation, (ii) social cohesion in the targeted communities, protection of vulnerable people, especially women, and the stabilisation of the targeted areas, and (iii) access to basic social infrastructure (education and health) in the targeted regions. The project will carry out several activities to raise awareness and promote living together, in a bid to prevent conflicts and strengthen the resilience of communities.
Beneficiaries
The project will be implemented in seven of the country’s 13 regions to help the Government conduct its employment, vocational training, social cohesion, and private sector development policies and programs. The seven regions (Sahel, Centre-Nord, Nord, Est, Boucle du Mouhoun, Sud-Ouest,and Hauts-Bassins) were targeted based on their current IDP rate (86.7%) and poverty prevalence (46.4% average). Apart from these seven, four other regions (Centre-Est, Centre, Centre-Ouest, and Plateau-Central) have been identified as replacements in case the project encounters challenges accessing the priority areas. The project will directly impact no less than 175,000 people, of whom at least 50% are women and 50% are people directly affected by insecurity (IDPs, host communities, widowers/widows of the VDP and FDS, etc.).
