π Tender Overview
As part of the six-lane expansion of the A 43 motorway by Autobahn GmbH des Bundes, five railway overpasses over the A 43 and the A 42 at the Herne motorway junction will be replaced. Work is currently underway on the second bridge. All work is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
The Herne motorway junction is an important traffic junction and connects the two motorways A 42 and A 43. The latter will be expanded to six lanes in order to improve traffic flow. As a result, five railway overpasses (EΓ) at Kreuz Herne have to be replaced by larger new buildings.
The first EΓ carries four tracks of the routes Cologne-Deutz - Hamm (Westf) and Wanne-Eickel - Herne over the A 43 and is around 72 meters long. Half of this bridge was dismantled and then rebuilt. The dismantling and the insertion of the new superstructure took place during weekend closures.
The second bridge is around 150 meters north of the first EΓ and transfers a track from the Recklinghausen South β Herne line. It spans the main carriageway and the exit to the A 42 with a central pillar. In future it will be 130 meters long.
The third and fourth EΓ each carry two tracks on the routes from Wanne-Eickel to Recklinghausen SΓΌd via the A 42. In future they will be around 70 meters long.
Finally, another bridge over the A 43 will be renewed. This transfers a track from the Recklinghausen SΓΌd β Herne line and will be around 200 meters long after the new construction.
