DescriptionFinancing of investments relating to the MAERA wastewater treatment plant in the Montpellier metropolitan area over the period 2022-2026.ObjectivesThe project aims to improve the collection and treatment of wastewater for approximately 430000 inhabitants of the Montpellier metropolis.Proposed EIB finance Approximate amountEUR 80 millionTotal cost Approximate amountEUR 160 millionEnvironmental aspectsThe project aims to maintain compliance with Directive 91271 EEC relating to the treatment of urban waste water and Directive 200060 EC establishing a framework for a community policy in the field of water. The works of the wastewater treatment plant fall under Annex I of Directive 201452 EU amending Directive 201192 EU on environmental impact assessment EIA. Several of the other investments included in the project could fall under Annex II of this directive. Environmental impact assessment procedures are carried out when required by the competent authorities and mitigation measures are applied where necessary. If applicable the requirements of the directives on the conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora 9243 EEC and 2009147 EC are applied. The Banks assessment will focus on the proponents ability to correctly apply these environmental management aspects of the EU Directives.ProcurementThe Bank will require the Promoter to ensure that the contracts for the implementation of the project are awarded in accordance with the applicable EU procurement legislation Directive 201424 EU 2014 25 EU as well as Directive 9213 EEC as interpreted by the Court of Justice of the EU with publication of tender notices in the Official Journal of the EU if necessary.Status Under appraisal - 6052021
