Scope The project MOG-II extension of the modular offshore grid aims at developing and building new offshore grid infrastructure to connect new wind farms in the Belgian part of the North Sea in line with Belgiums energy strategypact and the ongoing definition by Belgian Government in the Marine Spatial Plan 2020-2026 of new zones for production and transmission of electricity. The project is under study with a phased commissioning in the period 2026-2028 depending on the timely commissioning of required onshore grid reinforcements. The project has as key objective to enhance the integration of renewables and to support Belgiums climate goals. MOG-II consists of offshore grid investments that allows to connect the new wave of offshore energy to the mainland on top of already scheduled 23GW offshore wind power by 2020 also known as phase 1 in an efficient reliable way - and hence strongly facilitates RES integration for Belgium. The targeted offshore power for the second phase is between 17 GW and 204 GW - in line with Belgiums Energy Strategy that states a global objective of 4GW by 2030. MOG II aims at connecting the new offshore wind farms to offshore transformation platforms and transporting it via 220 kV AC cables to a new substation on the shore that will be meshed into the existing transmission grid. Elia is currently working with Belgian Government and Administration CREG regulator and other involved stakeholders to define the framework of a tendering system for the new wind farms and to launch the necessary studies with regard to production zones and the future transmission infrastructure number of platforms cables grid design.
