Africaβs progress toward the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2063 is threatened by fragility, limited public finances, and the disproportionate impacts of climate change. Despite these challenges, economic growth is expected to rise from 3.3% in 2024 to 4% in 2026. Achieving these prospects requires closing a $1.3 trillion annual development finance gap, of which only about half can currently be mobilized domestically. The development financing gap facing the African continent could worsen in the coming years considering global geo-political shifts.
This project seeks to bridge Africaβs development financing gap through quality data, analysis and stakeholder mobilisation in the ecosystem of impact investing β deployment of capital for both financial returns, social and environment benefits. It will produce robust knowledge about the market size and characteristics, raise stakeholder awareness, and facilitate ecosystem collaboration and resource mobilization.
Expected outcomes include increased awareness of policymakers and regulators both at national and regional level, investors, social entrepreneurs and ecosystem enablers on social, economic, and environmental co-benefits of impact investing β especially in support of women and youth empowerment, as the project informs impact investing at scale across all African regions.
The project is led by Impact Investing Ghana in collaboration with national partners and the Global Steering Group for Impact Investment. It will cover ten countries across the African continent. It will also receive financial support from the Netherlands National Advisory Board, Chemonics, and the Ford Foundation.
