Description: The systematic use of evidence in decision-making has the potential to support effective and equitable public policies and programs that lead to improved societal outcomes. Knowledge-translation (KT) activities such as capacity sharing, relationship building, and provision of fit-for-purpose evidence play a key role in supporting the use of evidence. However, despite a growing body of practice and research on KT and evidence-use interventions, there remains a gap in knowledge on what works, how, why, and in which contexts.
This project aims to enhance the uptake of the best available evidence on what works to support evidence use by policymakers, practitioners, knowledge brokers, communities and researchers. To do so, it will: strengthen and routinely update a living map of evidence on supporting KT and evidence use; establish diverse action communities (funders, policymakers, researchers and/or KT practitioners) to integrate tacit experience (such as individual wisdom, insight or intuition) and lessons learned into the available evidence base and to surface particular knowledge needs; draw on the available evidence to develop knowledge products that respond to these knowledge needs, such as primers, how-to guides, community manifestos and research agendas; and develop and maintain a website that hosts the living evidence map and derivative knowledge products so that these are openly and freely accessible.
In bringing together new and existing scholarship and tacit knowledge, the project will establish a living evidence base for making KT efforts more evidence-informed. Ultimately, the goal is to enhance evidence use in decision-making, thus contributing to broader social, environmental and economic impacts.
