PROJECT DESCRIPTION (DE)
Background:
Brazil has 121.3 million hectares of public agricultural land, 99 percent of which lies within the Amazonas administrative region. 50 million hectares of this area remain unallocated. This makes them highly vulnerable to deforestation, encroachment, illegal land appropriation, and other unlawful practices, particularly in the state of Amazonas. This destruction is exacerbated by low land ownership security and inadequate spatial planning. This threatens biodiversity and the livelihoods of smallholder farmers and traditional communities. Protecting these areas is essential to preserving the Amazon rainforest, promoting equitable land use, and supporting local communities.
Goal:
Traditional communities and family farms will have equitable access to land. Deforestation will decrease, vulnerable areas will be protected, and resource management will be improved.
Approach:
The project collaborates with national agencies such as the Ministry of Agricultural Development and the National Institute for Colonization and Agrarian Reform, ensuring alignment with existing land-related strategies. The project:
- facilitates coordination and dialogue within the expert panel for land allocation and regularization.
- aligns land allocation and regularization procedures with international standards for the protection of indigenous rights, focusing on traditional communities and family farms.
- improves information systems and ensures their interoperability for effective land data management.
- provides traini
