Scope : To Set up Kuppa Pumped Hydro Storage Project in Chhota Udaipur, Udaipur
Hydro power major NHPC has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Gujarat Power Corporation (GPCL) for investment in Kuppa pumped hydro storage project of 750 MW capacity.
The MoU was signed on 03 January, 2024, in Gandhinagar under the aegis of Vibrant Gujarat Summit. As per terms of the MoU, NHPC is likely to invest an estimated Rs 4,000 crore in the proposed hydro storage project at Chhota Udaipur, Gujarat.
The state government and NHPC plans to develop and utilise this project which will be an effective solution for energy storage. The implementation of this project will create significant employment opportunities and boost the local economy in the area. The MoU aims to achieve the national goal of 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030 and a net zero target by 2070.
