📋 Tender Overview
Project Title :
Construction of Koboko – Yumbe – Moyo Road
construction on the 103km Koboko-Yumbe-Moyo road project in Uganda. The road upgrade works will take three years to complete and include a one-year post-construction defects liability period and a five-year post-construction maintenance plan. The project is being funded through US$130.8 million in grant financing from the World Bank as part of the Northern Uganda Refugee Resettlement Programme. The project, which traverses the three districts of Koboko, Yumbe and Moyo, is considered a lifeline for the host communities and the refugee populations residing in the area. It connects the Bidibidi, Lobule and Palorinya refugee settlements, which host more than 360,000 refugees. Bidibidi is the most populous refugee settlement in Africa.
The aim of the project is to enhance accessibility, facilitate delivery of supplies, and reduce travel time for all types of vehicles, including buses and motorbikes predominantly used by the refugees and the host communities, and the trucks facilitating cross-border trade between Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and South Sudan.
The road segment to be upgraded starts at Koboko near the Uganda/DRC border and ends in Moyo near the Uganda/South Sudan border.
According to the World Bank, following the signing of the civil works and construction supervision contracts in March, a six-month value engineering exercise was launched as part of the design review. It is being executed in a phased manner allowing works to start on sections already reviewed.
China’s Zhongmei Engineering Group has been contracted to upgrade the gravel road to bituminous paved standard and is currently undertaking forward maintenance works.
