Jaitapur Nuclear Power Tender

Scope The project once completed will produce 10 gigawatts GW of electricity enough to power 70 million Indian households. The project will take 15 years to complete but will start producing electricity before that.The land acquisition process has been completed for 9900 MW nuclear power plant in Jaitapur Maharashtra. The state government was assisting the Central government in acquiring the land for the project. The project is being undertaken by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India NPCIL and the Electricite de France EDF a French power utility firm. The Jaitapur nuclear power plant comprises six reactors. An Industrial Way Forward Agreement for the implementation of the project was signed on 10 March 2018 between NPCIL and Electricite de France. EDF estimates the project will create around 25000 local jobs during the construction phase and around 2700 permanent jobs.Earthquake risks and the potential impact on local fishing have been cited as key issues. Although no financial details have been released the contract is estimated to be worth in the tens of billions of euros dollars.EventsAccording to the industrial framework agreement for the project signed between NPCIL and EDF in March 2018 EDF will supply the EPR technology and be responsible for all engineering and procurement works for the first two reactor units of the Jaitapur nuclear power plant.April 23 2021 Finalisation of the contract was expected in the coming months.
