The Project Development Objective is to improve community-based childcare provision and livelihood opportunities for low-income households in selected villages. These objectives will be achieved through a multi-pronged approach aimed at improving childcare services and womenβs economic prospects in target villages. Childcare services will be improved by training facilitators and community organizations in establishing childcare facilities in their villages, including working with village and district governments to obtain funding support. The project will also support childcare services in target villages by providing basic materials for children, establishing guidelines and minimum quality standards, providing parenting classes to mothers, fathers and caretakers, and designing an updated curriculum for children to improve early childhood development outcomes. Womenβs economic outcomes will be improved through a set of livelihood support activities targeted at mothers whose children are enrolled in childcare facilities. This will include livelihood skills trainings, support in accessing inputs and markets, and access to economic cooperatives and larger networks. The pilot will also include policy advocacy and work with village and district governments to secure ongoing financial support for childcare to ensure that facilities are sustainable beyond the project lifetime. These activities will take place in 100 villages across10 Indonesian provinces: Aceh, North Sumatra, West Kalimantan, Central Java, West Java, East Java, Yogyakarta, Southeast Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, and West Nusa Tenggara.
